Oreo Moon Phases

November18

As part of their exploration of the Moon Phases, Year 5H rotated around 8 stations in the classroom. These ranged from a group simulation with a torch, moon and chair, to a video clip, reading a text and answering questions, and an ordering activity, to name just a few of the activities.

The next lesson they were challenged to apply their new knowledge to re-create the phases of the moon using Oreo’s. Next they had to order and label the phases correctly.

With a little guidance, they all succeeded! ūüôā

Planetarium visit

Both Year 5 classes were taken on a surprise visit to the Belgrade planetarium recently.

They were given a tour through the solar system and the constellations by a very knowledgeable host, who was then inundated with questions.

Times Table Songs

November17

If you are having trouble remembering your times tables then try these songs!

In fact, even if you know all the times tables already still take a look, because they are great fun and shouldn’t be missed!

Two times table

Three times table

Four times table

Six times table

Seven times table

Eight times table

Nine times table

Which is your favourite?

“I just love counting those eights, no trouble!” (Mrs Howie) I recommend you watch this one first!

Update:

There was a 50/50 split in Y5H between the eights and “We’re counting, so astounding. I can count by threes in my sleep!”

The Primary Halloween Party

November16

The Halloween party began with a parade of the costumes.

Thanks to all the students in Year 5 who made such an effort to dress up for the party and the teaching assistants who did a fantastically scary job painting faces.

After the costume competition, the party got into full swing with dancing and some refreshments. ūüôā

Space

September27

Over the past few weeks, Year 5 have been exploring the Solar System.

After collecting information on the planets, such as temperature, size, number of moons, they created a scaled toilet paper solar system, which helped to show the vast distances between the sun and the other planets.

The First Week

September27

During the first few days of school Year 5 have had fun completing some team challenges.

Whilst 5B were particularly good at the Hula Hoop challenge, 5H showed that even with their eyes closed they were still able to make a square (ish) shape using rope.

However, The human knot proved tricky for everyone! Have you tried the human knot challenge? How did you do?
